This book rocked my socks and made me friends with other similarly food-obsessed people on public transportation. I'm sure I would have learned pretty much the same things by watching the TV version of this book, which I think aired some years ago on the Food Network (little does cable-less me know) but I held on to this book till the very end just as some people do checkout line mysteries. Anthony Bourdain is a no-bullshit kind of guy who doesn't make any excuses about his own pretentions and how much he hates vegetarians. His writing rocks my socks. I am probably as obsessed with other cultures as I am food, so reading about other cultures' food pretty much blew my mind. There you have it.
